The LASA theatre department has been growing, and so has the season! This year, in addition to the UIL show produced by students in theatre classes, ACP will stage four productions, including a musical, a classic, a modern classic, and the world premiere of a student-written play!
Hadestown Teen Edition is a HOT ticket! LASA will stage the high school version of this Broadway musical, which won 8 Tony Awards® in 2019, including for Best Musical and Best Original Score. Licensing is limited, so if you’re not headed to NYC, LASA is a unique opportunity to see this exquisite telling of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.
The Importance of Being Earnest is a witty and brilliantly crafted comedy by Oscar Wilde that has delighted audiences for nearly 130 years. With its sharp humor, clever plot twists, and timeless commentary on the absurdities of society, this play continues to captivate and entertain, proving that great satire never goes out of style.
The Bald Soprano is a wildly absurd and hilarious play by Eugène Ionesco that turns everyday conversations into surreal, nonsensical, and unexpected moments. As a landmark of the Theatre of the Absurd, it challenges the conventions of language and logic, leaving audiences both bewildered and thoroughly entertained by its unpredictable humor.
In 1897, Bram Stoker published Dracula, the most famous novel of his literary career. In 2023, LASA student Simon Auby wrote Dracula O-, his own most famous work purely by default. Both pieces feature a cowboy, a vampire, copious amounts of blood, and crackpot medical science. But only one features raccoons, identical twins, and the French Revolution!
